ANTONUCCHI
Duilio Marciano Rossi
PERSONALITY Duilio has always been impulsive. An adrenaline junkie, he has sought out thrills for most of his life. Because of his reckless nature, his father never considered him to have much of a future in the mafia world. This led to him having more freedom than his brother, which led to him getting into more trouble, which made his father trust him less, and so on. It was a vicious cycle that led to Duilio's intensifying these traits rather than dulling them. He is also, however, a loyal and loving person. He suffers greatly now, knowing that the tragic deaths only a few months ago were due entirely to his own reckless, greedy actions. He hates himself for having caused his sister's immense trauma and suffering, and he feels the weighty pressure to care and provide for her. As a result, Duilio finally wants to change. What remains to be seen is whether he will be able to. He will need guidance from older family members if he is to have any hope of reforming. One of the most terrible things about it all is the fact that, despite a lack of proper training, Duilio contributed more to the Sicilian mafia's goals than his brother did. The albatross around Duilio's neck weighs heavily on him, and he hopes desperately that he can find some form of absolution in America. HISTORY Duilio, the son of a mafioso, was born and raised in Sicily. Beginning early in his life, it was apparent that Duilio wasn't nearly as good a candidate for the mafia life as his older brother, Vincenzo. Duilio always had a certain impulsivity that Vincenzo lacked. As a result, he did not receive the same training as his brother. He was mostly left to his own devices and learned to do things his own way. He simply wasn't considered to be a valuable investment of time and teaching. During his school years, Duilio fell in with a bit of a nasty crowd. Knowing that his father expected little of him, he saw no reason to dedicate himself to schoolwork. Rather, he became instrumental in the formation of an underground gambling ring within the school. A considerable amount of money passed through his hands, but he spent most of it on liquor, gambling, and marijuana whenever he could find it. His twin sister, Mariella, always did her best to pull him back from the brink of disaster, but Duilio consistently rebuffed her attempts. Hardheaded, he believed it would be weak of him to allow anyone else to deter him from his chosen path. Thrill-seeker that he was, and always fond of muggle guns, Duilio ended up making his bones at the tender age of 14, well before Vincenzo had even been considered for such an assignment. This contribution to mafia goals came about in a mostly accidental fashion, and it had the unfortunate side effect of putting an enormous target on Duilio's forehead. Given his reckless and impulsive nature, however, Duilio did not fade into hiding the way his elders wanted him to. Instead, he began training as a safe-cracker with an older and equally reckless mafioso. Ultimately, things came to a head when Duilio was 18 years old. He managed to pull off an impressive heist, cracking a safe to steal a fortune's worth of diamonds. He would have pulled it off beautifully if it weren't for the fact that his enemies knew of him as the young safe-cracking prodigy. Two weeks later, Duilio returned to his home to find his parents, his brother, and Mariella's fiancé brutally murdered. Mariella had been fortunate enough to hide effectively. Panicked and unsure what to do, Duilio cracked his father's safe and found instructions leading to a powerful family member in the United States. Knowing full well that his number was up if he remained in Sicily any longer, he used his father's money to buy last-minute passage on a ship to New York City and dragged his twin along with him. They spent their 19th birthday crossing the ocean and arrived in New York in mid-October of 1922. Fortunately, Mariella had studied English, and the two made their way safely to Camden Hills, where they are eager and nervous to meet their Antonucchi brethren. Did you read the rules?
